Obama at Oregon Convention Center
Obama at Oregon Convention Center
We had already completed production for Barrack Obama at the WaMu theatre on June 1, 2007 (for event blog go here) so we were the best candidate to cover Senator Obama’s swing through Oregon.
We were back in the same hall where we had done the Portland Carpenters Rally the previous April.
This time Roger Fisk who is the director for all the national campaign events came out and oversaw production personally. It was great getting to work with him after the success of our event in Seattle.
We provided all of the lighting, sound and press feeds as usual. Again, we expected 2,000 people but the event went to the rooms capacity at somewhere around 5,000. The event pictures show how crowded the room became.
I ran sound for this event as well, and had to make an appearance onstage to switch out the microphones for the choir that opened the event. We put up a 20 by 30 American flag as the backdrop behind the stage which always makes for a great drop against presidential candidates.
Lisa Fruichantie came as out event lead and Bob rounded out the Seattle crew. We had help from I.A.T.S.E. Local 28 stagehands as well.
We had a blast staying in Portland again. We stayed at the Hilton in downtown and rode the Max to the Oregon Convention Center. Anne Meersman took us to lunch at the Laughing Planet in the Hawthorne district which had the best lunch I’ve had all year.
